Drought Monitoring

The devastating effects of droughts are unfortunately all too common in our region. California is especially drought-prone, and climate change may further increase the frequency, duration, and intensity of future droughts. Water is a precious resource, so proactive monitoring and mitigation actions are essential to ensuring its continuous availability, particularly in times of drought.

To plan and prepare for the impacts of future droughts, El Dorado Water Agency collaborated with water purveyors, the County of El Dorado, and tribes to develop the Upper American River Basin Regional Drought Contingency Plan. As part of this plan, the Agency monitors indicators and indices on an ongoing basis for trigger levels that may indicate the onset of drought conditions. Based on this monitoring, regional response actions are initiated when needed.
